League Requirements

EBYFC Coaching Requirements

All coaches — Football and Cheer — who intend to coach in EBYFC must complete a coaches’ clinic and be a member of USA Football.

Coaching Badges

Every Coach Must Be Badged

Coaches, both Cheer and Football, must meet all of the requirements on this page before the conference will issue a Coaching Badge.

  • All coaches must be badged prior to July 1st of the current year, or before taking the practice field.
  • All coaches are required to wear their badge at every practice and every game — no exceptions.
  • Coaches found in violation of this rule are subject to possible suspension or expulsion from the league.
📋

Application & Consent/Release Form

Each coach must complete an EBYFC Application and sign a Consent/Release Form. The application must be complete and include the applicant’s signature and picture. Returning coaches with an original application on file only need to complete an update.

🎓

Coaching Certification

Football coaches must be certified with USA Football; Cheer coaches with the National Youth Sports Coaching Association. First-time coaches attend a clinic to complete certification, and returning coaches renew their USA Football membership each year.

Background Check

All coaches are required to pass a background check through a league-accredited service. See below for how EBYFC’s fingerprint-based screening works.

Youth Safety

Our Commitment to Youth Safety

The East Bay Youth Football & Cheer Conference is committed to providing a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all youth participants. To support this commitment, the conference requires background screening for volunteers who work directly with athletes — helping ensure that everyone in a leadership or supervisory role meets the standards necessary to safely support our youth programs.

Who Must Complete a Background Check

Screening is required for volunteers with direct or supervisory contact with youth participants, typically including:

  • Head Coaches
  • Assistant Coaches
  • Team Managers / Team Moms
  • All Organization Executive Board Members
  • Team staff or volunteers regularly interacting with players

Volunteers assisting with concessions, event setup, or other roles without direct youth supervision may not be required to complete the screening.

How the Background Check Works

EBYFC uses the California Department of Justice Live Scan system for fingerprint-based background checks, which screen criminal history records through both:

  • The California Department of Justice (DOJ)
  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

Fingerprint-based checks are considered the most reliable form of background screening and are commonly used by schools, youth organizations, and volunteer programs.
